WHAT IS CHANNEL EXTENSION?
|
CHANNEL EXTENSION APPLICATIONS
|
Channel Extension (Connectivity) has become a widely accepted solution
for many business applications. It fits into the strategic plans of
companies planning to reduce operational costs and provide a higher
level of service to their customers. Any company that processes data on
an IBM mainframe or
plug compatible (Hitachi, Amdahl, etc.) can possibly benefit from the
PIXNET-XL
product line.
The multiplexer channel provides the physical connection
which allows input and output devices to communicate with the computer.
The multiplexer channel requires devices or their control units to be
within 200 to 400 feet
of the mainframe computer. Through a combination of sophisticated
hardware and software, the PIXNET-XL product family allows an IBM or
plug compatible mainframe user to extend the multiplexer channel of the
computer to anywhere in the world regardless of distance.
PIXNET-XL products allow corporations to locate devices
such as high speed printers, tape drives, CRT controllers and other
devices where they will be most productive. The computer thinks these
peripherals are
in the same room, and the peripherals think they are directly attached
to
the computer. All this is provided as a transparent solution requiring
no
special hardware or software to provide very high speed device support
to
remote users. PIXNET-XL products are very effective for applications
such
as: Item Processing (Check Sorting), High Speed Printing, Electronic
Tape
Vaulting, Host-to-Host Comunications and Disaster Recovery.
MGT's PIXNET-XL product line is a complete family of
channel connectivity solutions containg a single and dual channel
model, with many types of communications interfaces available including
TCP/IP. This product family provides a solution for virtually any
channel connectivity need. Interoperable with each other and with
our previous PIXNET-XL product, this product family is designed to
supply a solution for any channel connectivity requirement while
preserving the customer's previous investment.
